Carmel By The Sea looking back at the Carmel Beach City Park. The finest white sand beach on the West coast.

During the last week of October, 2007 I spent two weeks in CA with my wife Lara and our dog Lucky. We visited relatives in MidPines, CA near Yosemite and had planned to go to San Diego for a few days on the beach, but the San Diego fires had other plans. We had reservations at Tower23 in Mission Beach, but when I called they said it was pretty terrible and we should not come. That was a dissappointment - I was looking forward to visiting San Diego and sitting on the beach in the sun - but my minor inconvenience was nothing compared to the people whose homes were destroyed. The images on TV were pretty awful.

So we diverted to Monterey and Carmel by the Sea which are always fun places to visit. After that onto a conference in San Mateo on the San Francisco Peninsula. We also visited our old neighborhood in Menlo Park/Palo Alto and met up with some old friends we haven't seen in a while. That was nice.

There are a lot of houses like this in Carmel. I like the look of the local stone used in the construction.

Sitting on the beach at Carmel River State Beach. The sand is not the same fine white powder as Carmel City Park, but it was very quiet here. These seagulls were tenacious. They surrounded us and some of them outflanked us and darted in from the rear to steal our food.
